This weeks Music Monday is going to be slightly different, rather than giving you a band or artist, we bring to you the Top 10 Albums of All Time. Now this subject is a bit subjective, as everyone’s opinion on the matter is quite different, and often times people are quite passionate about their choices. So in turn we bring you Rolling Stones ten greatest albums of all time along with Entertainment Weekly’s choices for the best albums as well. Both lists follow similar patterns but differ on album choices, so here goes:

Rolling Stone’s 10 Greatest Albums of All Time

  1. The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
  2. The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds
  3. The Beatles – Revolver
  4. Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited
  5. The Beatles – Rubber Soul
  6. Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On
  7. The Rolling Stones – Exile on Main Street

Entertainment Weekly’s 10 Greatest Albums of All Time

  1. The Beatles – Revolver
  2. Prince – Purple Rain
  3. The Rolling Stones – Exile on Main Street
  4. Micheal Jackson – Thriller
  5. The Clash – London Calling
  6. Bob Dylan – Blood on the Tracks
  7. Aretha Franklin – Lady Soul
  8. Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
  9. The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds
  10. Nirvana – Nevermind

Beastie Boys - Liscense to I

Both lists are heavily dominated by early rock with the likes of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones making both lists. Yes the 60’s and 70’s were the golden age of music, it is hard to argue that, even for the current generation. Todays popular music lacks the creativity, heart, soul, and musical genius that was present in the 60’s, 70’s, and even into the 80’s. However there is still music out there that incorporates all those before mentioned qualities and is relevant to the younger generations. So with that in mind I give you my choices for the top ten albums of all time.

  1. Beastie Boys – License to Ill
  2. Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon
  3. Jet – Shine On
  4. Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin III
  5. Current Swell – Protect Your Own
  6. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals – The Lion The Beast The Beat
  7. Jay-Z – The Blueprint 3
  8. Blakroc – Blakroc
  9. ZZ Ward – Till the Casket Drops
  10. Lana Del Rey – Born to Die

So there you have it, three distinct and very different lists for the top ten albums of all time. My choices will differ from yours just as yours will from everyone else. So, in your opinion what are your top ten albums of all time?
