
A weekend shooting near Sugarloaf ski resort has resulted in the death of a 23-year-old resort employee, with a 24-year-old co-worker now facing murder charges. According to initial reports from the WABI News Desk and verified by regional public safety announcements, the Franklin County Regional Communications Center responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the Left Bank condominiums in Carrabassett Valley at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
First responders attended to the victim, identified as Makayla Rose DeSantis of Colchester, Connecticut. Desantis was initially transported to Maine Health Franklin Hospital in Farmington before being transferred for specialized care to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

On Monday evening, authorities arrested 24-year-old Austin Doucette of Carrabassett Valley. Doucette has been formally charged with murder in connection with the shooting. According to a GoFundMe fundraiser started by the victim’s brother, Max DeSantis, Doucette was her long-term boyfriend.
Maine State Police have confirmed that the investigation into the fatal incident remains actively ongoing.
