Almost a thousand volunteers spent two hours picking up trash from the Truckee and North Shore area last Saturday, collecting more than 5,550-lbs of litter.

The organized event was part of the 18th annual Truckee Day.

The 2.1-tons of trash collected is significantly less than the 3.72-tons collected last year, but that can be put down to the fact people have been staying at home and tourists have stayed away for most of the last twelve months.

4,250-lbs were collected from Truckee neighborhoods, and a further 1,300 from the North Shore.

Organizers say that over the course of the last eighteen years the amount of rubbish collected is gradually decreasing.

  1. Cigarette butts are garbage? Imagine that cause to the average idiot smoker who is stupidly addicted to nicotine, one of the most addictive known substances to humans, and tobacco which is treated with ammonia prior to processing by cigarette manufacturers which eliminates a nitrogen molecule in the tobacco therefore making it more easily absorbed by the blood stream of humans, gets the nicotine more quickly absorbed thus the idiot user more addicted.
And is actually another form of ‘free-basing’.
    Go figure eh?
And if you look up the definition of garbage in the smokers dictionary, it says “any form of human refuse other than cigarette butts.”
Mama always said, stupid is as stupid does.
Great weekend of cleanup, glad to be a part of this awesome community.
