A 37-year-old man from Waukesha, WI was killed on Saturday afternoon during a ski accident in the town of Vermont, at Tyrol Basin Ski and Snowboard area, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said Monday, reports Wisconsin State Journal.

The man was killed when he struck a tree and suffered serious injuries while traveling “at a high rate of speed” at the Tyrol Basin Ski and Snowboard area, at about 2 p.m. on Saturday, said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Elise Schaffer. The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office named the victim as Jonathan Allen.

Allen was on one of Tyrol Basin’s expert runs when he collided with the tree, said Josh Faber, general manager of the ski and snowboard area. Ski patrol was there in minutes to get the Allen off of the hill.

“It looks like a very unfortunate accident,” he said. “Thoughts and prayers to the wife and family and friends affected.”

A helicopter was unable to fly to the scene because of poor weather conditions, so he was taken to UW Hospital in Madison by ambulance, Schaffer said, and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
