UPDATE: The Race To Open Is In Full Swing In Colorado | Ski Season Is Rapidly Approaching

After two nights of extensive snowmaking, Loveland Ski Area & Arapahoe Basin have laid down a nice coat of snow on their slopes. Loveland has announced that they are hoping to open in Mid-Late October, while Arapahoe Basin has stayed under the radar as to when they are planning to open. Natural snow is expected to fall today & tomorrow, which could really get these resorts going.

“At dawn this morning, the temperature at mid-mountain was 22 F.  The snowmakers had another good session. Getting a September snowmaking start is good. The North facing slopes are still holding snow. The forecast for the week shows a bit of rain and snow. I suspect things will just get whiter as the week goes on,” stated Alan Henceroth on Al’s blog at Arapahoe Basin.

Temperatures are expected to rise, which will most likely halt all snowmaking operations for a few days.
