Verdant Creek Fire, B.C. UPDATE: Banff Sunshine Village Ski Resort Closed for 2nd Time This Summer

Verdant Creek Fire Update, Sunshine Village Area July 30th

Banff Sunshine Village- Due to the hot, dry, and windy weather the  Creek Fire has grown more active in the North Simpson region of Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. For precautionary reasons, Parks Canada has instated a commercial closure for the Sunshine Village area.

Parks Canada estimates the Verdant Creek Fire to be 5,100 hectares. For precautionary reasons, Banff Fire has again mobilized firefighting equipment into the Sunshine Village area.

Starting July 31st, Banff Sunshine Village will temporarily suspend summer operations until further notice. Both guests of the Sunshine Mountain Lodge and staff will be relocated to the Town of Banff. Banff Sunshine would like to thank the Town of Banff for assisting in securing accommodation for all Sunshine Mountain Lodge guests and staff living on mountain.

Both Parks Canada and BC Parks continue to fight the Verdant Creek Fire. Banff Sunshine Village is working with Parks and will reopen once the wildfire risk subsides.
