Killington Ski Resort in Vermont became the latest site of a chairlift incident this season when an 8-year-old snowboarder had to be rescued from the Ramshead Express Quad on Wednesday, February 19. Fortunately, the child was unharmed.

The incident occurred at 12:12 p.m. when the child and three others boarded the lift. According to reports, the child was not fully seated when the chair left the loading area, leading to the dangerous situation.

Killingtonโ€™s Ski Patrol responded quickly, deploying a catch net with additional padding beneath the lift as a precaution. An initial attempt to secure the child with a sling was unsuccessful, and the child ultimately fell into the net. Fortunately, there were no injuries. After an evaluation, Ski Patrol transported the child down the mountain via snowmobile. According to local NBC5 reports, the child appeared to be unharmed.

Killington Resort expressed gratitude for the swift response of its mountain operations and Ski Patrol teams, emphasizing that such incidents are rare. The resort also used the moment to highlight the importance of lift safety for all skiers and riders.

The Ramshead Express Quad is a four-person detachable chairlift that runs from the Ramshead Base Area up to the top of the ski resort on Ramshead Mountain. The Quad allows access to all of Ramshead’s terrain, which primarily consists of beginner and easy, intermediate groomers and glades, and many of Killington’s terrain parks. The lift also accesses the K-1 Base Area for access to Snowdon, Killington, and Skye peaks.
