Western US Overview

A major storm system is headed for the West, paving the way for additional storms. There’s a slight risk of a weak to moderate atmospheric river event around February 13-14, increasing snow forecasts for the Sierra, Wasatch, and Southwest Colorado.

Jet Stream and Storm Tracks

The jet stream shows a dip crossing the Rockies, moving weather systems from West to East. A major storm will hit Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Northern New Mexico, and parts of the Sierra around February 14. This will be followed by additional energy and storm systems moving in from the West.

Snow Accumulation Forecasts (Through February 16)

  • Wasatch: 2-3 feet, with heavy snow arriving in the afternoon of February 13-15 and potentially another batch around February 17.
  • Tetons: 16-18 inches.
  • Big Sky, Montana: 6-8 inches.
  • Tahoe and Mammoth: 3-4 feet.
  • Western and Southwest Colorado: Significant bullseye, with around 30 inches for Aspen, Snowmass, Crested Butte, Highlands, and Buttermilk, and 4 feet over Wolf Creek.
  • Taos Ski Valley, Santa Fe, and Angel Fire: 10-20 inches.

Northeast Accumulations (Through February 16)

The Northeast is expected to receive another foot of accumulation. The areas include New York State, Northern Vermont, and New Hampshire. Southern parts of New Hampshire and Maine are expecting 8-10 inches.

Overall Outlook

A major storm is expected from February 13-17, with heavy snow accumulations across several bullseye locations. Skiers and snowboarders should monitor this pattern closely for excellent conditions.
