Overview

Chris Tomer’s Valentine’s Day forecast promises a powder-filled extended weekend for skiers and snowboarders across the US. A series of storms are lining up to deliver significant snowfall, creating prime conditions from Friday through Monday.

Regional Highlights

Mammoth, California, is currently experiencing heavy snow and winds, with gusts up to 134 mph at the summit. Colorado resorts like Steamboat and Wolf Creek are also seeing fresh snow, and more isย on the way.

Jackson Hole is expecting significant accumulation. Aspen Snowmass and other Colorado and Utah resorts are also looking at substantial snowfall through the weekend.

Storm Systems

A major storm system is impacting the Inner Mountain West, with another one behind it. A third storm is also looming, promising an active weather pattern.

Snow Timeline

Big Sky is expected to see snow today, moderate snow on the 15th, and heavy snow on the 16th and 17th. The Wasatch is looking at snow through the morning of the 15th, with a second wave coming on the 16th and 17th. Colorado will see snow today into tomorrow, with another shot on the 17th.

Official Numbers & Final Thoughts

The Wasatch and Tetons will receive an additional 20-30 inches of snow by late on the 17th. Colorado resorts are looking at at least a foot, with some places seeing up to 20 inches. The Pacific Northwest and Northeast are also in line for significant snowfall.
