Snow Before You Go: Holiday Storms Brewing

Big changes are on the horizon across the West as two major storm systems gear up just in time for the holidays. The first system is set to bring warmer, wetter conditions—especially for the Sierra—before a colder round closer to Christmas pushes freezing levels sharply lower and ushers in widespread snow across top-tier ranges from BC to the Tetons.

Powder chasers, take note: the period between Christmas Eve and New Year’s looks increasingly favorable, with a strong snowier trend extending through early January. Western Colorado, interior BC, and Utah’s highest terrain all stand out for deeper potential, while the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies stay firmly in the wintry zone.

Snow riders in the Northeast won’t be left out, either. Multiple waves are targeting Vermont, New Hampshire, and upstate New York, hinting at festive refreshes for those East Coast turns. Warm temps remain a concern for some mid-elevation resorts, but the late-month forecast suggests colder air and solid midwinter potential.

Will these systems deliver the season-reset skiers are waiting for? Watch the full forecast to see which mountains are poised for the best powder turns as 2025 kicks off.
