One of the most daring solo ascents in recent memory will come to life on the big screen as Eternal Solo, a new documentary from Italian mountaineering brand Grivel, makes its world premiere at the 73rd edition of the Trento Film Festival in Italy on April 27. The film chronicles Stefano Ragazzo’s bold solo climb of the Nameless Tower via the iconic Eternal Flame route in the Karakorum—a 1,000-meter vertical wall known as one of the most revered and difficult lines in high-altitude climbing. Ragazzo completed the ascent in July 2024 without partners or support, relying solely on his own skills, instincts, and mental resilience.
“Climbing Eternal Solo was a test of courage, endurance, and mental strength,” Ragazzo said. “I felt like a samurai, one who doesn’t act impulsively but sits and waits for the right moment to strike. I had to learn how to control my emotions, manage fear, and find inner calm to face each difficulty. The mountain taught me patience, to never give up, and to believe in my abilities.”
The film, directed by Andrea Cossu, is more than a record of a solo ascent—it’s a story about personal evolution, risk, solitude, and purpose. Eternal Solo explores what drives a person to climb alone into extreme and unforgiving terrain, and how Ragazzo—not born into a mountaineering culture—came to find meaning, strength, and clarity on vertical rock.
Ragazzo’s feat echoes the golden era of alpinism, when climbers faced the unknown with little more than willpower. But Eternal Solo also speaks to a broader audience. Through sweeping cinematography and emotional depth, the documentary becomes a meditation on fear, ambition, and inner resolve.
“Stefano shows us that limits are often only in our minds,” Grivel CEO Oliviero Gobbi said. “This film is about mountaineering, yes—but it’s also about confronting ourselves, in the purest and most honest way.”
The world premiere will be held at the Trento Film Festival with Ragazzo, director Andrea Cossu, and Gobbi in attendance. Eternal Solo is expected to tour mountain film festivals globally later this year.
