In early December, a skier was taken down the mountain and completely buried by an avalanche in the French backcountry. Thankfully, a companion of the skier was watching and performed a timely rescue to save the man’s life. Not all of the necessary precautions were taken on this day, but it could’ve ended a lot worse. It is always important to practice proper backcountry avalanche safety and to ski with a buddy.

  1. That was NOT a timely rescue by his utterly useless friend. Had the other folks not happened along the guy would be dead while his partner tried to figure out how to use a probe and a shovel.
