A 50-year-old German man escaped death thanks to his emergency airbag after being swept away down a mountain by an avalanche. The incident happened at Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in western Europe, which straddles parts of France, Italy, and Switzerland. As the man started sliding down the slope, he could be seen inflating his anti-avalanche airbag to keep him above the surface of the snow. The man was then taken to the hospital by a helicopter. On the same day, separate avalanches took the lives of five skiers in the French Alps.
The incident took place on 29 January, and according to UK-based media outlet SWNS, the skier was dragged an astonishing 300 metres towards a deadly 50-metre cliff before vanishing beneath the snow. The skier survived, thanks to the deployment of his emergency airbag. The crucial safety device prevented him from being completely buried, significantly increasing his chances of survival.
