Following the storm that dumped over two FEET of snow in 48-hours, Snowbird patrol dropped the rope on Mineral Basin yesterday… it looks like word got out, and a few people were waiting.

Check out the point-of-view video above, and watch the insane Chinese Downhill that ensues. Check out how quickly so many people ended up way down the mountain. Looks pretty wild. How many people do you see wipe out?

  1. Palisades (Squaw Valley) is my home mountain. Snowbird is my favorite Mountain. Sadly I got a minor injury 2 days later. Should be back in a week.

  2. I’m on cloud 9 ! ! ! I was there for this rope drop. I’m in upper left of the video. I timed it perfectly as I just got off Little Cloud Chair and the rope dropped 10 minutes later. Mineral Basin is so large that everyone could spread out and get deep totally untracked powder. 2 untracked runs I’ll remember forever ! ! The lift then got very crowded and I met friends on Baldy chair for 2 runs. We then crossed over to Alta for a few before returning.. By far the best inbounds run ever anywhere . Snowbird has been my Favorite ski area for 40 years too ! !

  3. I’ve done the same many times, Eagle Bowl @ Kirkwood. then race to chair 2 to head over for chair 4’s opening.

  4. That’s my home mountain, so I’ve had the pleasure of flying at the front of that crowd many times over the past four decades. The first two or three runs after a rope drop are the fix that keeps you amped till your next score.
