It snowed in the Alps this week and people are already skiing.

Need I say more?

On September 5th, ski mountaineers Vivian Bruchez and Mike Arnold made creamy turns on the high alpine slopes of Lyskamm, a 14,872 ft mountain in the Pennine Alps lying on the border between Switzerland and Italy.

The turns looked great but the skiers both warned about the dangers of crevasses being covered up due to the new snow. Bruchez wrote in an IG post:

First turns of the season 5th September 2022, with @mike_d_arnold
⚠️ We found some good patch of snow but there is a lot of crevasses.
Glaciers are full of surprises, especially now with the very dry conditions of this summer.
The small snowfalls (storm) hide the big crevasses, the effect of the wind can form snow bridges in a very short time. The use of the rope is essential as we do at the end of the video.
Generally, skiing on glaciers is very delicate in autumn
So, I advice those who already want to ski to stay patient 🙏🏻
Ski safe!

Skiing down an almost 15,000 ft peak in new snow in the beginning of September is about as good as it gets for this time of year. As an American currently experiencing the throws of a September heatwave, watching these videos is like an emotional speedball of big stoke combined with villainous jealousy. Now, if only that snow would just keep on falling everywhere…
