Jackson Hole Mountain Resort proudly commemorates its 60th anniversary with the release of the captivating video “Layers of Time,” a tribute to the legendary mountain terrain and the pioneering spirit that shaped one of North America’s most iconic ski destinations.

Opening its lifts in December 1965, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, was conceived with a bold vision to provide skiers access to the Tetons’ rugged, awe-inspiring terrain, a landscape forged over nearly three billion years by tectonic forces, glacial carving, and active fault lines. The video chronicles not just the history of the resort, but the astonishing geology beneath it, from the ancient marine sediments and oceanic layers to the resilient metamorphic and igneous rocks that define the mountain’s unique character.

“It’s our 60th anniversary. And in those 60 years, a whole new world developed in Northwest Wyoming. A culture born, community fostered. Engineering breakthroughs and limits pushed. We’ve lived a lot in these sixty years — so many have worked hard to build this place. And they’ve played hard, too. Lifetimes of memories, endless stoke; it feels like it’s been a long time coming, yet these six decades barely scratch the surface of our history.

Layers of Time celebrates the work that took place long before people thought about strapping planks to their feet and sliding downhill – long before humans walked the Earth, even. The real story is written in the ground beneath us. A ~9-million-year-old saga starring a mountain range that is still growing. As we celebrate our 60th, we would be remiss not to celebrate the fault line that produced our favorite fall lines. It is a tale of the Tetons’ geologic and tectonic wonder – the story of how our favorite mountain came to be and how the unique terrain we love was shaped. Step into Layers of Time and experience the ascent of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.”

Layers of Time” captures the remarkable engineering feats behind the original tram, which is anchored into the formidable Darby Formation rock, and showcases the intense natural challenges overcome to build and expand the resort’s lift infrastructure. It also celebrates legendary ski lines such as Corbett’s Couloir and the thrilling terrain shaped by the Teton fault’s seismic activity.

Over six decades, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has evolved into a cultural and sporting icon, where generations of pioneers have fostered a community of adventure and innovation. This milestone honors those early visionaries and the ongoing legacy of exploration, while inviting enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the living, geological story of the Tetons.

The resort will mark the anniversary with special events, including discounted $60 lift tickets on December 19, live music, retro costume parties, and more festivities celebrating its vibrant past and exciting future.
