Heli-Skier Killed in Avalanche in New Zealand

Just hours after a deadly avalanche killed Australian Roger Greville in New Zealand, video purporting to show the moment he was swept away was posted online in China.

Mr Greville, 58, was heli-skiing in the Hector Mountains, south of Queenstown, when he was hit by a wall of snow shortly before 3pm local time Monday.

Only an hour later GoPro footage was posted onto Chinese social media website Weibo showing Chinese skiers yelling out to a skier as a fast-moving avalanche approached.

“Take care,” one of the men yells out. “Careful,” another shouts.

The video was captioned: “Actual footage of avalanche burying man in New Zealand, straight sliding is very dangerous, skiers please be careful.”

Police are going to review the video in the investigation into Mr Greville’s death, and determine if there was any negligence on the part of Southern Lakes Heliski

  1. Not good for business? How about not good for the skiers family! That is my uncle and I can’t believe that the video would be put up. No thought for my cousins and aunt.
