This video is from exactly one year ago today in Chamonix, France on the Helbronner Petit Flambeau.

Ski cuts are a very important tool in the backcountry.  They are a way of testing a slope to see if it may avalanche.

Please do not attempt to ski cut a slope unless you are experienced and qualified.

“Ski or Slope Cut:  A stability test where a skier or rider rapidly crosses an avalanche starting zone to see if an avalanche initiates. Slope cuts can be dangerous and should only be performed by experienced people on small avalanche paths or test slopes.” – National Avalanche Center
