VIDEO: The History of Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico

Taos, New Mexico is one of the best ski resorts in the USA if not the best.  This strong El Nino year, could be Taos’ year to shine.  When this place gets snow, it’s like no other place on Earth.

I did my first ever ski trip here when I was 10 years old and had my mind opened to the possibilities of the big mountains of North America.  I returned in 2005 to try my first ever freeskiing competition and it snowed like crazy.  I’ll never forget seeing a funky-as-hell bluegrass band with legendary freeskiing judge Jim Jack while watching the snow pile up outside.  We were both freaking out.  I’d driven to Taos from Tahoe and was feeling very far from home.  That music, that man, and that snow put me at ease.

Taos, NM will always hold a special place in my heart.

Once an abandoned mine dump in the southernmost part of the Rocky Mountains, Taos Ski Valley is home to some of the most abundant and aggressive inbounds ski terrain in North America.
