What is the Best Color to Wear on the Slopes?

With dozens of new styles coming out each year, everyone has a favorite color to wear on the slopes. From mellow, light colors to bold, flashy ones, we have seen it all out on the mountain.

With all the colors to choose from, we wanted to know: what is the best color to wear on the slopes? So we took to our Facebook page to ask SnowBrains readers. We received nearly 100 responses, and here is what they had to say.

Red

With 10 votes, wearing red was the most popular response among SnowBrains readers. A classic choice for on-mountain clothing, red is known for its bold appearance and contrast to the snowy background. Red is also known for its versatility and many shades from cherry to maroon to burgundy. With a nice red jacket and some matching pants, red is a fan-favorite color for skiing and snowboarding.

Beyond its style, red is also popular for its practicality. Its high visibility makes it easier to spot for nearby skiers, limiting collisions on low-visibility days when it can be difficult to spot others.

Black

Black received eight votes from SnowBrains readers, making it the second most popular. Another timeless color, black’s sleek appearance and ability to match with pretty much any other color make it an excellent choice for most skiers. From all-black kits to pairing it with brighter colors, black brings endless options for on-slope style.

Like red, black is another color that stands out well against the snow. But more than that, black’s darker shade makes it excellent for hiding dirt, wear and tear, and marks that come after long days riding. It also does a good job hiding the classic grease dripping from the chairlift towers.

“I’ve been wearing black pants for a long time,” one SnowBrains reader commented. “Anything dark that hides grease dripping from the towers,” another added.

Orange

For us, orange was an underdog. But SnowBrains readers seemed to like orange, as it was the third most popular option. With its bright, high-energy appearance, orange is a favorite for skiers who want to stand out. Whether it’s a bright orange shell or burnt orange pants, the color has a unique, eye-catching feel.

Again, orange offers the benefit of popping on the slopes with its high visibility. In crowded areas or in snowy conditions, it is easy to spot. While it may not be as classic as black or red, orange has become a popular choice, and SnowBrains readers seem to agree.

Neon

With five votes, neon colors were another popular color among SnowBrains readers. Like orange, neon colors bring a bright, new-generation energy to slopes filled with red, black, and other, more classic colors. From neon greens to yellows to purples, neon colors are becoming popular for skiers who prioritize expressing themselves on the mountain.

Neon is a popular choice for parents who want to be able to easily spot their children on the slopes. They bring the advantages of visibility and safety, making it easier for other skiers to watch for kids and for parents to know where their kids are.

“All my kids wear bright colors, to be seen by rescue helicopters!” one parent wrote. 

An Array of Other Colors

In addition to red, black, orange, and neon, we heard a variety of other colors from SnowBrains readers. Here are some of the others.

Purple was another color that a few comments mentioned. “I’ve never owned it, but I think dudes in purple/violet look steezyyyyy,” one commenter wrote.

Blue was another color that was brought up. “The big blue bear as my friends say!” one SnowBrains reader wrote to go along with a picture of his full-blue outfit.

Another answer that SnowBrains readers seemed to like? “Anything but white!”

No matter what color you like to wear on the slopes, as long as you are having fun and are staying safe, that is what matters most. At the end of the day, the best color is the one that makes you ski the happiest.
