Whistler Conditions Report: Powder is Back

Seth getting his pow turn on.

Today was super fun up on the mountain.  Some new snow and little crowds on Monday made for some nice laps.  I went to Blackcomb in the morning as they normally get things open quicker.  I went up Glacier and saw a big line up for Spankys as they had not dropped the rope yet. I then decided to traverse over to Chimney and found that not many people had been over their yet.  By the time I got back to the top of Glacier Spankys was open and fresh.

The snow today was firm dense powder.  You would glide on top of it most of the time, but the depth was there when you slashed or came upon a nice wind loaded area.  Most of Spankys had some really good snow that was consolidated in the chutes and bowls.

On my way back to Glacier I would hit Fraggle rock off Crystal.  Snow there was very similar to Spankys but a little more skied out.  I did not make my way Whistler but heard it was good over there.  People were hitting Air Jordan and going off lots of other classics with the good snow, and line ups were never more than 5 minutes.

Playing around in Chimney was a good time before Spankys opened.

Clouds were moving in and out all day, but for the most part it was sunny.  There was only one run I had all day with questionable light, and it was still not that bad.  Temperatures are staying cold for most of the week, warming up towards the weekend, therefore the snow should stay good for a while.
