The current water temperature in Lake Tahoe is 42.3°F.

Tahoe doesn’t freeze because it is too deep and contains too much water.

At 22 miles long with a maximum depth of 1,645 feet, its depth-to-area is very large compared to other lakes.

  1. False. Lake Baikal, by far both the deepest and largest by volume lake in the world, freezes every winter for 5 months. Parts of the ocean many times larger than Tahoe freeze, as well. So the real answer is that it doesn’t really get cold enough for long enough in Tahoe.
