Wildcat Mountain, New Hampshire, started its snowmaking operation on Thursday in preparation for the 2025-26 ski season. The mountain saw its first natural snowfall earlier this week. “The energy on the mountain is electric,” Brandon Swartz, General Manager of Wildcat Mountain, said in a press release. “Our snowmakers are working around the clock to transform the terrain and bring us closer to welcoming skiers and riders back for another unforgettable season.”

Wildcats’ Opening day for the 2025-26 season is quickly approaching, but it has not made an official announcement yet. The mountain said that as soon as the weather conditions are right, guests can expect a launch consistent with Wildcat’s tradition of early-season excitement. Known for its rugged, steep terrain and jaw-dropping views of Mount Washington, Wildcat Mountain boasts 2,100 feet of vertical drop and the longest green circle trail in the East, Polecat, stretching 2.75 miles.

Wildcat Mountain is tucked in the legendary Pinkham Notch and is consistently ranked the most scenic mountain in the East. Nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the ski resort is surrounded by the biggest peaks in the region. Similar to Bretton Woods, Wildcat offers striking views of Mount Washington but from much closer. Wildcat is situated on the eastern side of Mount Washington, offering views of the legendary Tuckerman Ravine, located just three miles away. Wildcat is located  2 hours and 45 minutes, or 150 miles, from Boston.

Wildcat receives the most snow in New Hampshire most years. The resort averages about 200 inches of snow annually, which means that you will have ample opportunities to catch a mid-winter powder day. Wildcat Mountain is known for its rugged terrain, breathtaking views, and fiercely loyal community.

The Wildcat Gondola, the first Gondola lift in the U.S., has been a trademark for many years. It was the first lift of this type to be erected in the U.S. that was designed and built by the Italian company, Carlevaro & Savio. The Gondola opened for operation on January 25, 1958. It has 225 acres of skiable terrain and 48 trails, with 20 percent marked as beginner, 47 percent as intermediate, and 33 percent as advanced. While the terrain is geared toward more advanced skiers. Vail Resorts purchased Wildcat Mountain in 2019.
