After receiving over 6 feet of snow over Christmas week, the skiing continues to rip at Alta with the start of the New Year.  Soft wintery snow was to be found all over, with the best turns hanging out off of High Traverse on Collins.  Supreme lift also had some fun off the skiers right, as well as skiing upper chair line under Collins.

Alta is always one of our favorite places, even a week after the storm, the majority of the mountain remains smooth, chalky, and ripping.  This is exactly how High Boy and the trees to the skiers right were skiing.  They took winners for the day, with smooth and chalky winter snow and the occasional pocket of powder.  With light winds, things were only getting smoother with each lap and the skiing was fantastic.

Favorable winds were depositing snow into High Greeley making for a few inches of fresh wind buff.  Wildcat was also harboring some fun turns, with natural and man made features abound.  On the whole, Alta is still ripping with smooth turns and plenty of airs.

The next few days are looking like sunshine for Alta, but it’s starting to look like the weekend is holding a nice chance for a refresh after the holidays.

  1. Jesse – The snow pack at Alta right now is actually a bit above average for this time of year. Alta is a rocky mountain, it just a fact. Slopes with a north aspect are holding snow very well though, and the skiing is still good. If you think rocks = fail, I hear the groomers at beaver creek are shrub and rock free…

  2. snowpack looks kind of sparse lots of brown spots and little shrubs and rocks sticking out = fail.

Got an opinion? Let us know...
