Family Ski Day

There has to be a ski day on the agenda when staying in the Reno Tahoe area. Lake Tahoe is surrounded by a large concentration of world-class ski resorts that dot the surrounding mountains. It can be hard to decide which one to tackle first.  Here are two that top the charts in family fun.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe

Mt. Rose is a long-time family favorite because it has terrain for everyone and is one of the most convenient resorts in the area. Enroll the little ones in Rosebuds lessons while the adrenaline seekers in the family slay the Chutes. Close proximity to downtown Reno and North Lake Tahoe means abundant lodging options and amenities.  It features an easy to navigate lodge and gives you the cozy, intimate feel that is ideal for a family vacation.

Diamond Peak

Another mountain the whole family will love is Diamond Peak. The mountain provides gentle beginner terrain and stellar views of Lake Tahoe.  While it is known for its beginner terrain, it is home to some of the best tree skiing in Tahoe and also provides 1,840 feet of vertical drop. One of the greatest perks of this small but mighty resort is that even on the busiest days, you’ll find short lift lines meaning more time spent on the runs.

Stay and Play in Downtown Reno

Reno’s glowing skyline lies nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains. In addition to downtown Reno’s casino hotels,  there is an endless list of family fun awaiting those who visit. THE ROW — made up of Eldorado, Silver Legacy, and Circus Circus — is in the heart of downtown Reno and offers a fun spot to stay and play on your winter vacation. After the resorts have closed and you’re ready to relax, check out some of these fun activities with the family.

THE ROW

  • At Circus Circus, the newly renovated Carnival Midway is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. Marvel at circus shows, take your best shot at classic carnival games and try to win an awesome prize.
  • At the Silver Legacy, mom and dad can enjoy a well-deserved day at The Spa. Outfitted with relaxation lounges, steam rooms, saunas, soaking tubs and a list of spa treatments, there’s no better way to relax after a long day of skiing.
  • The Rink at THE ROW is another fun addition to downtown this winter. Watch the kids skate, take to the ice, enjoy a warm drink and chill out. Ice skating is a classic winter pastime that belongs on the itinerary.

Quality Time With the Kids

You’ve skied your heart out, played every arcade game, and still have a day left. If your legs need a rest day, there’s still fun to be had indoors. Check out these fun activities to chalk up some quality time with the family.

The Discovery

Explore your inner scientist and check out this fun and intriguing museum in downtown Reno. The Discovery originally opened as a children’s museum and quickly transformed into a world-class science center for all. They are constantly offering innovative exhibits, hands-on galleries, and educational programs that nurture creativity and fun for all ages.

DEFY Sparks Extreme Air Sports

This is the perfect place to let the kids bounce off the walls, literally!  The park features angled wall trampolines, aerial silks, super tramps, foam pits, a ninja obstacle course, and even a trapeze. This is the perfect spot to burn some extra energy before the car ride home.

Need 2 Speed

The ski resorts might close by 4 pm, but there’s still some adrenaline to be had. At Need 2 Speed, you can race electric go-karts, play blacklight mini-golf or try their virtual reality arena. This indoor arena features high-performance karts that are fast, deliver instant acceleration, and produce no harmful emissions. It’s a modern spin on a classic favorite.
