Winter Storm Warning for Colorado: 15″ of Snow Possible By Saturday

Colorado has had a heck of a year.  Right now, they’re waiting on up to 15 more inches of snow by Saturday morning.  Colorado’s base is good.  This snow on top is gonna make for a great weekend.  Get up there.

NOAA is saying that some locations were getting 2″ of snow per hour last night…

“A winter storm continues through today and tonight with the heaviest snowfall expected over southwest Colorado. Snow diminishes on Saturday but remains cold. More wintery weather is possible next week so continue to follow the latest forecast updates.” – NOAA Grand Junction, CO

Please give the Colorado Avalanche Information Center a look before heading into the backcountry.  Avalanche Danger is HIGH in many place in CO right now:

...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST SATURDAY...

* TIMING: PERIODS OF SNOW...OCCASIONALLY HEAVY THIS AFTERNOON AND
  EARLY EVENING...WILL CONTINUE.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION: NEW SNOWFALL OF 6 TO 12 IS EXPECTED TODAY AND
  TONIGHT. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS REACHING 15 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE
  OVER THE ELK AND WEST ELK MOUNTAINS.

* WINDS: WEST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS 25 MPH MAY RESULT IN LOCAL
  BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW....ESPECIALLY ABOVE TIMBERLINE AND
  ALONG THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE.

* VISIBILITY: LESS THAN 1 MILE AT TIMES IN SNOW AND LOCAL BLOWING
  SNOW.

* IMPACTS: TRAVEL WILL BE HAZARDOUS OVER THE HIGH MOUNTAIN
  PASSES...INCLUDING OVER VAIL PASS ALONG INTERSTATE 70...AND
  OVER MONARCH PASS ALONG HIGHWAY 50.
