Alpine Meadows ski resort in California opened the summit for the first time this season yesterday and it was good.
No, it was great. ย
Honestly, I don’t know Alpine that well. ย We kept going out on the High Yellow traverse and finding large, completely untracked zones that confused me.
“Is this closed or does this cliff out or something? ย It’s 1:30pm, why aren’t there any tracks?” – miles
“No, it goes and it’s open. ย Because it’s Alpine, dude.” – Alan
We skied powder at Alpine yesterday from 9am until we were exhausted at 3pm without stopping once. ย Lots of traversing, lots of powder, lots of mini-hucks.
The powderย was around 2-6″, recrystalized, dense, and absolutely lovely where the wind hadn’t hit it too much.
High Yellow was the call as well as the terrain near the ABC chair. ย Right under the Summit chair was fun a well.
To be totally honest, Alpine is skiing better than Squaw right now especially since you can bang top-to-bottom laps all day on Summit Chair.
There were no lifts lines at Alpine yesterday. ย None at all.
Yesterday was my favorite day of the season so far.
You gotta get out more man.
That looks a lot like Squaw Valley South.
Yeah, man! Great skiing with you. Alpine is full of pockets, but you do have to be a careful cause sometimes it *does* cliff out.
