Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina is reporting 50cms (20″) in the past two days. ย We climbed up today and measured over 3-feet of new snow in spots. ย The snow came with big wind that was strong enough to shut the ski resort for most of the day today. ย This afternoon, they were able to get the lower mountain open but the mid and upper mountain regions remained closed.
Yes, we as skiers and riders overuse the term “no one out”. ย But today, we really mean it. ย Since the mountain was shutdown,ย I hiked up to tree-line and had the place to myself.
Thus, there really was “No One Out” today. ย Well… ย at least there wasn’t anyone out until I ran into TJ and Jared, a couple of Gringos from the US of A. ย We got in a total of 4 runs in deep, fun, heavish, wind-blownish, creamy snow.
The lifts were closed for a reason. ย Wind gusts were coming through that were nearly knocking us off our feet when we were hiking up.
The forests were skiing very well and did we one run in an open area beneath the Nubes chair.
Avalanche danger is certainly high above treeline. ย A patroller told me that they got an avalanche to run via a bomb in the Militares area.
Tomorrow should be excellent. ย The forecast is for snow everyday this week except for Tuesday.
wow sweet got a place for a old ski bum to crash?
