Today was my first day back at Cerro Catedral ski resort inย Bariloche, Argentina for the season. ย Skies were blue, temps were cool, 2-6″ of new snow was on the ground, and my favorite chair, Nubes, was open.
I shot straight to Nubes in the morning and the skiing down the main chute through the rocks was great. ย There were scratchy/icy spots elsewhere (due to rain to near the top of the mountain the past few days), but the wind must have loaded the main chute well because I never scratched out in there. ย I lapped it until noon before zipping over to La Laguna for a look see.
La Laguna skied very well on the north and east facing slopes.ย Smooth, buttery, untouched snow smothered all over the cirque made for cruisy, fun turns. ย It’s low tide for sure right now which made for some very interesting features in Laguna. ย The lower section in the sun was a bit sticky and slushy as the afternoon sunย was hitting.
Back to Nubes after the Laguna lap where that main chute had warmed and was crisping up a bit. ย Fast and fun, good-for-you skiing off the top –ย soft,ย springlike groomers on the bottom.
The FIS (International Ski Federation) is in town right now and it’s well worth watching these guys and gals race. ย If their power, strength, and speed doesn’t inspire you, nothing will. ย They were charging so hard today. ย Saw some amazing skiing and some incredible wipe outs. ย These guys were skiing so hard… ย Very impressive. ย Very inspiring. ย No messing around.
The forecast is showing a warm up with some serious spring skiing the next 2 days followed by snow on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. ย Should be a fun week at Cerro Catedral.
Nice stuff Miles! Welcome back. Please keep the reports and photos coming.
