Ski season in Tahoe has officially kicked off.ย (yeah, I know Mt. Rose opened on Wednesday, but despite the implications of its name, magic carpet stretches my definition of lift serviced.)
For the first time in over ten years Boreal opened today from top to bottom via the Accelerator chair.ย They will be on a 9am to 9pm schedule for the rest of the season.
The coverage was excellent as cold nightly temperatures allowed them to blow a considerable amount of snow to augment the natural stuff from last weeks weather system. ย
Given today’s warm(er) temperatures the snow was somewhat spring like without getting sloppy or rutted out.ย Early season rocks, thankfully,ย were not a factor. ย
Crowds were manageable despite the early season excitement.
ย Along with the upper portion which allowed for some ( a few) high speed turns they had a decent park set up for day one.ย Several jib features (10 by their official count) for varying abilities.ย Did I mention they have a jump open?ย Is it big?ย Absolutely not, but you can get your feet off the ground and even spin around, which at this point last week was something you probably weren’t doing.ย The jump was real surprise this early on.
It’s Boreal so the focus is on the park features, but despite the limited space those choosing to just take turns seem to be enjoying themselves just fine.
Boreal always has their snowmaking game on so conditions should be able to improve with friendly night time conditions along with the predicted precipitation early next week.ย
On the whole it proves to be worth the ticket price, or at least I imagine, the question you should be asking is why you don’t have a season pass, which is ludicrously cheap.
Nice! i’ll be there tomorrow to get the ‘snow legs’ going.
