Just over a week ago, I was fortunate to be greeted by a foot of new, no wind, bluebird skies and one chairlift that has some of the best skiing in North America…
After dropping off the two kids at Ski School, Dad in full sweaty-powday-freak-out mode, was stressed about missing those crucial first pow runs. Luckily, a delayed opening for the mountain gave me some time to relax…at the end of the KT line. Once the mountain opened, conditions were sublime all over KT-22, including The Nose, The Alternates, The Fingers, and of course, under Olympic Lady. For quality control, I stayed on the North Facing aspects to maximize my half day sans kids.
As other chairs opened, I stayed right at home on the Mothership. My only gripe…I wish I knew every little rock on The Fingers like the Snowbrains Squaw legends Miles Clark, Eric Bryant, Andy Hays, and Kyle Cota so I could take full advantage of the ideal conditions. But with two kids in Ski School, it probably makes sense for Dad to come back in one piece at lunchtime so he can shred the afternoon with them.
After a few ‘not so great’ years, Squaw is back!
…AND IT’S STILL SNOWING…

Waking up on the West Shore isn’t too shabby…
Especially after a decently sized storm…
Across the street, Homewood was looking stupendous…
Tram Face in all its glory…
The Nose of KT looking quite nice..
The Fingers looking better than it has in YEARS…
After a delayed start, the rush is on…
The Nose on a glorious powder day…
I still managed to find some smooth snow…
Played it safe on my first run of the day in the edge of The Fingers…
Headwall had a delayed opening due to snow safety…
Broken Arrow showing some of the best coverage in a long time…
Hidden Chutes can be entertaining…
North facing cold smoke below the Alternates…
I had to straightline something since there were no moguls under The Fingers…
Seth finds a pocket of fluff…
Olympic Lady has some ridiculously fun terrain…
The main chute is like a natural halfpipe…
Further down the ridge will provide more options for fun…
Even at 12pm, the token Oly Lady cliff was missing a bombhole…
By mid-day, even The Alternates were still delivering smooth steeps…
I found a lake as we gained elevation…
After lunch, my 7 year old wanted to cross Granite Chief off his list…
The views never disappoint…
My son attempted a slash turn for the camera…
Back on West Shore, the end of the day was near…
Free smores at The West Shore Cafe doesn’t hurt…
That’s my daughter!!!
OH YEAH!
