Kirkwood ski resort in California is closed due to High Avalanche Danger today after receiving 27-37″ of heavy, wet snow.
Carson Spur, hwy 88, is closed just west of Kirkwood due to high avalanche danger as well.
This storm came in up-side-down with snow levels rising throughout the storm.ย It rained as high as 8,200-feet at Kirkwood last night.

High Avalanche danger conditions exist on the mountain… Ski Patrol and Mountain Operations teams have an enormous amount of snow safety, grooming and lift maintenance tasks to completeโฆ This will take hours to completeโฆCurrent conditions โ 27โ to 37โ of new snow in the past 24hrsโฆ Currently temps have risen to 33@the base with Snain/Rain above 8200โ we have temperatures dropping down to 29 degrees with snow fallingโฆ NWS Forecast model – Snow before 10am, then snow showers after 10am. Temperature falling to around 32 by 2pm. Southwest wind 18 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2โ to 4โ inches possible.
