Opening day at Mammoth Mountain is just around the corner! The resort is scheduled to open November 11th and anticipation is high. Cooler temps withย some moisture moved through the area over the last 24 hours that brought snow to the upper elevations (dusting all the way down to the base of Chair 2) and rain down in town. While this amount of snow and the slight warming trend over the next couple days obviously won’t do a whole lot as far as getting the mountain closer to opening it is a welcome reminder that opening day is right around the corner.
The good news is while this little system was a bit of a teaser, weather models are showing the potential for a more influential cold front to move through late this Sunday and maybe hang around through Wednesday or Thursday. According to some models the system could bring as much as a foot or more to Main Lodge and above. These snow amounts coupled with temperatures in the teens would provide some much needed natural snow as well as great temps for the mountain operations crews to get out and start making snow.
So, while it might be a little too soon (just barely) to scrape the wax off your skis or board and put your boots by the back door, its never too early to start pulling all your gear out of the closet and sit on your couch next to the fire watching ski moviesย in anticipation of November 11th and for Mother Nature and the snowmaking crew to do their things so we can get up and ride the mountain again!
Stay tuned as we get ready for opening day and throughout the season when I hope to provide good, accurateย and informative reports on what exactly is going on up on the mountain. Happy powder dreams, everyone!
