NOAA has issued Winter Storm Watches for much of Wyoming and Idaho for Wednesday – Friday.

20-30″ of snow is in the Forecast along the Teton Range including Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole.

* TOTAL SNOWFALL...12 TO 18 INCHES ALONG THE GROS VENTRE RANGE AND
ย  20 TO 30 INCHES ALONG THE TETON RANGE EXPECTED. SNOWFALL OF 6 TO
ย  10 INCHES POSSIBLE IN THE JACKSON VALLEY.

...SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL TO RETURN WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
FRIDAY FOR MUCH OF WESTERN WYOMING...

..A WARM FRONT WILL BRING AMPLE AMOUNTS OF MOISTURE ACROSS WESTERN
WYOMING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL RESULT IN STEADY SNOWFALL
THROUGH FRIDAY...BEFORE AN ARCTIC FRONT MOVES OVER NORTHERN AND
CENTRAL PORTIONS ON FRIDAY. PERIODS OF HEAVY WET SNOW WILL BE
POSSIBLE IN THE MOUNTAINS...ESPECIALLY THE TETONS. BREEZY WINDS
WILL ALSO LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW IN THE
MOUNTAINS WITH SEVERELY REDUCED VISIBILITIES AT TIMES.

STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

* TIMING...PERIODS OF SNOW WILL OCCUR FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
ย  THROUGH FRIDAY. PERSISTENT SNOWFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE
ย  EVENT. PERIODS OF HEAVY WET SNOW WILL ALSO BE
ย  POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY OVER THE TETONS...STARTING EARLY THURSDAY
ย  MORNING. SNOWFALL WILL QUICKLY END FRIDAY NIGHT BEHIND AN
ย  ARCTIC FRONT.

* TOTAL SNOWFALL...12 TO 18 INCHES ALONG THE GROS VENTRE RANGE AND
ย  20 TO 30 INCHES ALONG THE TETON RANGE EXPECTED. SNOWFALL OF 6 TO
ย  10 INCHES POSSIBLE IN THE JACKSON VALLEY.

* WIND AND VISIBILITY...THE WIND WILL BE INCREASING THURSDAY.
ย  EXPECT A WEST TO SOUTHWEST WIND OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO
ย  50 MPH IN THE HIGH COUNTRY. A SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WIND OF 15 TO
ย  25 MPH WILL OCCUR IN THE JACKSON VALLEY. THIS WILL RESULT IN
ย  BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW ALONG WITH LOWERED VISIBILITY. TETON
ย  AND TOGWOTEE PASSES AND HIGHWAY 89 BETWEEN MOOSE AND MORAN WILL
ย  BE IMPACTED WITH VERY LOW VISIBILITY AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS...ROADS MAY BECOME SLICK AND SNOW PACKED WITH LIMITED
ย  VISIBILITY AT TIMES. PLEASE MONITOR JHAVALANCHE.ORG IF YOUR
ย  PLANS INCLUDE TRAVEL INTO THE BACK COUNTRY.

  1. MY God, it’s worse here in Fort Lauderdale. Yesterday we had dangerous rip currents and today the Ocean is like a mirror. The temperature is down to about 71 in the evening and is expected to reach the low 80’s tomorrow. I guess we will just have to get outside , cut the grass and weed out around the Pineapple plants. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It’s almost terrible, year round. Highs in the 80’s with lows in the seventies. Enjoy. Jim D.
