This is the first of many conditions reports for Squaw Valley USA this winter. ย
Today started out windy and snowy with Squaw reporting 1 inch of new snow. ย Exhibition on the lower mountain was open to the mid-station. ย The Funitel and the Gold Coast chair were on wind hold until about noon.
We arrived at 1pm and the conditions were fun.ย ย There was an inch or two of soft snow on top of the old man made snow surface on Gold Coast. ย Thereโs one run open off Gold Coast and itโs just enough to entertain you for an hour or two. ย Itโs not epic, but it is still fun and itโs still early.
The only tough thing for us in Tahoe right now is that the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and even New Mexico are all crushing it right now with fully open ski resorts, good snowpacks, and powder.
Weโll get there, but itโs certainly starting slow this year. ย The lower mountain has no snow once you get away from the snow guns.
The great news is that we heard Red Dog should open Friday or Saturday. ย Red Dog will seem like heaven on Earth after a few days relegated to Gold Coast only.
Tahoe is forecasted to get a few more inches of snow today/tonight. ย Lets hope so. ย It also appears there will be a storm this weekend.
thanks for the report Miles, I feel like I was there, though I’m glad I wasn’t. best of both.
Lets hope they get red dog open soon, I did 42 laps on the searchlight hamster wheel yesterday. Couldn’t do gold coast as its just to flat.
Too flat
