Run from the top of Cascade on Saturday, onto the middle ridge above the Mazot, down around the sweater-vest road, and back to the lift.
Mt. Hood, and the rest of Oregon for that matter, got hit by a big storm two weekends ago that finally dumped a few feet of new on top of the shallow base we’d been dealing with.ย That said, Mt. Hood still has below average coverage than a normal year.ย Here are the details:
Private Reserve and Heather Canyon are not open due to lack of snow and will not be open for a while.ย In addition to this, HRM (Hood River Meadows) is open, but is also heavily impacted by the lack of snow on the lower portions of the resort.
Mt. Hood Meadows express, however has filled in much better since the last conditions report in December.ย The off piste skiing through 1,2, and 3 bowl was chunky, but fabulous soft spring snow.ย This weekend was pretty much the definition of late spring skiing.ย Friday and Saturday were completely clear with little to no wind even up Cascade.ย My buddy and I were skiing in t-shirts.
Sunday was a bit different.ย Clouds moved in and concealed the summit of Hood.ย It was significantly windier on Cascade than either Friday or Saturday, and there was a slight misty rain falling in the morning and early afternoon.ย This is what the weather is looking like for the rest of this week andย following weekend.ย Looks like this coming weekend will be similar to the last and maybe just a bit cooler.
