Norwegian speed specialist Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has suffered yet another setback to his comeback, with the infection in his shoulder not clearing up and the athlete finding himself back in hospital. Kilde crashed in January 2024 during the Lauberhorn race in Wengen, Switzerland, which resulted in a serious cut to his leg and dislocation of his left shoulder. The dislocation also severed ligaments and caused damage to the athleteโs rotator cuff. In July, doctors at the Steadman Clinic in Colorado diagnosed and treated a serious inflammation in his left shoulder. It appears now that despite six weeks of IV-administered antibiotics, the infection has not cleared up, and Kilde had to return to the hospital for another surgery.
Kilde shared on social media that he had been on antibiotics for three weeks when the infection started to flare up again despite the infusion.ย โItโs not quite Kitzbuehl, I guess,โ the skier joked with a sigh, โThe infection got me again, and I needed to get it cleaned out again a couple of times. It seriously feels like a neverending story, but thatโs just how it is. I have the perfect team around me, so weโll get through it, but right now, itโs a serious waiting game. So, Iโve just got to keep on fighting and do the right things, but in the end, it will be okay, but right now, itโs just a battle.โ
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is one of the most successful Norwegian Alpine skiers ever. He won the FIS World Cup season title for Super-G in 2015-16 and 2021-22, the Downhill season title in 2021-22 and 2022-23, and the Overall season title in 2019-20. He led the 2023-24 Downhill races until his shocking accident at the Wengen Downhill. Kilde resides in Innsbruck, Austria, and is engaged to American ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin.
