Report from November 3, 2024

Yesterday was ski day #1 of the North American ski season for me.

Alta got about seven inches of new snow overnight so I decided to go see how skiable it was.

Alta felt like an operating ski resort yesterday.

The parking lot was half full, people were tailgating hard, and hundreds of folks were hiking up and skiing down.

The first thing I saw was a bunch of kids throwing backflips, frontflips, and 360s off a little jump near the base.ย ย

I strolled on and ran into a person I know named Jenna and her crew.

We talked and laughed and rolled uphill until after 1.5 hours we hit the top of the Collins Chair.

The lower mountain definitely had better coverage as the snow guns were shaping things up nicely.

We skied and tiptoed down the upper section mostly unscathed.

The middle section skied quite well.

The lower section had great coverage thanks to the snowmaking and by the time I arrived, it was full of moguls.

I glided into the parking lot with a smile.

It’s shocking how consistently skiable Alta is in November and it’s beyond cool that they let us ski there when they’re closed.

Ski season has begun.

Alta plans to open for the season on November 29, 2024.

Thanks, Utah!
