Report from November 27, 2024
I skied Alta until 4 pm on Tuesday.
The big storm day that wasn’t a big storm day.
I was skeptical of the forecast and expected it to fizzle, but I wasn’t sure, and the Alta magic should never be underestimated.
Same video as above but with some 3rd person video of pow skiing, heavy drinking, and banter:
I called three buddies and talked them into showing up at 8:30 a.m. and getting in line for a 9:15 a.m. opening.
When we arrived, the Collins chair already had a hefty line, so we went for Wildcat.
We were eighth chair.
The sun was shining, and Alta reported 10″ of new snow overnight.
We watched as lifties exploded through what looked like two feet of blower power.
We rode out the cat track off the chair and hooked a hard right into some stupidly deep, dry powder.
It exploded off our knees and chests as we dug into each turn.
I followed Daryn, a 20+ year Alta veteran, as he weaved and wound down the mountain, delivering three separate excellent powder runs.
Back at the chair, I was already satisfied.
All of the video above is from that first run…
We stayed on Wildcat all day, or at least until our legs gave out around 1pm.
We rolled into the Slopeside Cafe for “Alta Bombs” (double shot of expresso + PBR beer) and pizza.
We reveled in the deep, early season powder day, the good vibes, and the undeniable Alta Magic.
Life was good.
I don’t drink at all, and even I had two beers ($4 PBRs, the cheapest at any ski resort in the USA?)
Good times.
From there, I blasted home, dropped off my new Meier Skis to get mounted at Jans in Park City (thanks, Jared!), changed clothes, and hit an F45 workout (45-minute CrossFit style workout) that crushed me.
I slept well last night with dreams of more powder to come.
Today, we got into the Wasatch backcountry, and it did not disappoint.
Go get some of this new snow now because the forecast is for “severe clear” for the next week or two!
More soon.
Thanks, Utah!
