This year Mother Nature takes home the win for best April Fools Day joke we’ve ever seen.ย Don’t let it snow in Tahoe all year, and when it does make it rain up to 7000′ every time.ย But on April Fools Day, open the skies up and let it dump 2+ feet in the basin.ย Well played Mother Nature, well played.ย The deepness of the pow at Squaw yesterday was certainly no joke, but it was a stupid good time.
It snowed for most of the day, and the light was certainly flat, but none of that mattered as the skiing underfoot was smooth, deep, and simply fantastic.ย Squaw reported around 10″ overnight, but this was one of the golden days where totals were actually under reported, with easily over 2 feet of new snow in places.
The crowds weren’t too overwhelming for the best pow day of the year either.ย The typical lines certainly existed, with KT backed up to the Mighty Might tree before opening, and Granite Chief was well outside the pen when it first popped, but by noon nearly all the lines had dissipated and we were skating onto the lift.
Overall it was quite a trick by Mother Nature, one which was certainly enjoyed by all.ย Terrible winter in 2014 you say?ย What are you talking about?ย All we can remember is the bottomless day we indulged upon yesterday.
Not an April Fools Joke. I was at Squaw April1st.
Best Pow day in 1 1/2 years ! Snowline was 2500ft to Colfax.
