While temperatures around the United States are slowly rising, Summit County, Colorado, is not ready to call it quits on snowfall just yet. Resorts across the county received consistent snowfall over the last 48 hours, prompting skiers and snowboarders to grab their powder gear for some fresh lines. Resort parking lots quickly filled with people itching for floaty runs, and Arapahoe Basin was an excellent selection for finding that euphoric powder.
The Legendary Arapahoe Basin, located roughly an hour west of Denver, is a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders worldwide, especially when snow is forecasted. Commonly known as A-Basin, which opened in 1946, it is widely known for its incredible terrain, homestyle vibe, and long seasons. It is often one of America’s first resorts to open and the last to close. The resort has 1,428 acres of skiable terrain with a summit elevation of 13,050 feet, prime statistics for receiving and skiing powder.
Over the last two days, Arapahoe Basin had received 11 inches of fresh snowfall, making conditions at the resort top-of-the-notch. Searching for fresh lines was easy, and many trails were open and ready for skiers and snowboarders. Despite the strong winds, each chair was open, allowing skiers and snowboarders to find powder on every run.
The front side of A-Basin, made up of the resort’s beginner terrain and some advanced terrain, saw plenty of coverage. Green and blue runs, such as High Noon and Sundance, featured mellow slopes but great powder for getting creative and trying different tricks on. More challenging runs, like Exhibition, featured moguls frosted with fresh snow, making turning easy and giving the moguls a floaty and soft feel.
The Montezuma Bowl felt the full force of the wind throughout the day. Visibility at the top of the bowl certainly made the runs challenging, but the powder in the bowl was worth the reduced vision. Each run felt like a fresh new line, and visibility significantly improved as the lifts became closer. Despite the popularity of the Montezuma Bowl, there was plenty of room on each run, and the snow conditions were smooth throughout the day.
The Legendary Arapahoe Basin certainly lives up to the hype, especially on a powder day. The friendliness of each skier and snowboarder only added to the great experience, further giving A-Basin its laid-back, welcoming reputation. Each run at the resort felt incredible given the conditions, and the powder day experience at Arapahoe Basin was truly special. On a day with fresh snow in Summit County, Colorado, Arapahoe Basin is a fantastic place to be.
