Spring is now in full swing, and many are starting to plan their summer vacations. There are so many options to choose from. Even if planning a domestic trip, the U.S. has diverse options to appeal to anyone’s preferences.

When planning such a trip, cost is a major consideration. Thankfully, the travel experts at Optimus Travel have analyzed the cost of more than 100 vacation spots in the U.S. to help vacationers in their decisions. The cost analysis considered the price of a daily meal, public transit, accommodation rates, and attraction fees.

Aspen, Colorado, came in on the list as the most expensive vacation spot with a cost of $5,330 per person for a seven-day trip. The cost for a family of four, with consideration for shared lodging, would be $13,691. Visitors can expect to spend $761 per day which includes over $100 for meals and almost $500 for lodging. It can get even more costly by staying at the nicest hotels, eating at the finest restaurants, and shopping at the luxury stores downtown.

This may come as no surprise to some as Aspen is known as a favorite getaway spot for the ultra-wealthy with world-class skiing in the winter and endless recreation opportunities in the summer. Over 100 billionaires own homes in the area and the average home value is $3.47 million, according to Zillow.

Number two on the most expensive list was another mountain town: Park City, Utah, with a daily cost of $710 per person per day. Jackson, Wyoming, also made the list at number 10 at $490 per person per day. Rounding out the rest of the list were Maui, Montauk, Santa Monica, Key West, Charleston, South Carolina, New York City, and Martha’s Vineyard.

If you still want to visit these places, there are ways to do it more cost-efficiently. Traveling during non-peak periods will save on lodging and there are plenty of free activities like hiking and sightseeing. You don’t have to eat at the nicest restaurants, and you can even do your own cooking. You could also try visiting some of the least expensive places on the list like Sedona City, Arizona, Monument Valley, Utah, or Charleston, West Virginia.
