Aspen Snowmass, Colorado, has just announced plans for a major upgrade to its lift infrastructure with the unveiling of plans for its new high-speed detachable quad chairlift, the Coney Express, which will replace the 38-year-old Coney Glade chairlift. This new upgrade is just one part of the resort’s โMaster Development Plan,โ which aims to improve the skier and snowboarder experience at the resort with an emphasis on alleviating crowds and lift lines.
Construction for the new lift will begin in summer 2024 and it will be completed in time for the 2024โ25 season. The new lift will begin at the former location of the Burlingame lift and extend approximately 7,300 feet to the current endpoint of the Coney Glade lift. It will travel at a speed of 1,100 feet per minute, making the journey just under seven minutes long. Additionally, a mid-angle station will be incorporated, providing a new loading point for guests, which promises to streamline traffic and improve access to key areas of the resort. The lift is strategically designed and placed to better serve intermediate runs and its world-renowned terrain park. It will also provide more direct routes for guests heading towards Samโs Knob and Big Burn, which will further improve the flow of skiers and riders starting their day from the Snowmass Mall, where 60โ75% of visitors start their day.
The new chairlift is part of a broader vision for Snowmass that includes potential future projects such as additional lifts, expanded trail options, enhanced summer activities, and new dining experiences. This master plan aims not only to upgrade the facilities but also to enrich the overall guest experience year-round, maintaining Snowmass’ position as a top destination for skiers and snowboarders around the world.
