Australian resorts across New South Wales and Victoria woke up to some fresh snowfalls this morning. It has been snowing a few inches almost every day in the last few weeks and temperatures have stayed below freezing, enabling crews to run the snow cannons at night.
Late July was unseasonably warm in Australia, eroding a lot of the snow cover and even forcing some resorts to close, like Australiaโs most northern resort Selwyn. Since August, temperatures have dropped and snow making has been possible again over night and also natural snowfalls have topped up snow levels again.
Hotham reports 3cm (1.2 inches) of snow this morning whileย Perisher and neighboring Thredbo report 4cm (1.6 inches) of snow.
Mt Baw Baw in Victoria reports a dusting of 1cm (0.4 inches) of snow while Mt Buller seems to not have gotten any snow overnight.
Meanwhile Selwyn announced yesterday that the resort was planning to reopen for skiing and snowboarding on Saturday, August 19, 2023. While the webcams did not look like the resort received any snow, the forecast for the next few days calls for cold night, which should enable them to make snow in time for next weekend.
