Report from September 29, 2023
Yesterday was the very first truly spring day of the season here at Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Argentina.
And even then, things were still firm on the highest parts of the mountain.
The ideal spring lap here is:
- Ride up Nubes Chair
- Ski down through the rocks up high in money corn
- Pop into the park and hit 2 jumps
- Slip back into the slushy goodness below the park down to Nubes base
- Repeat
- All damn day
Yesterday was almost the above besides the upper rock zone being a touch too firm.
The rest was all there.
I did take a super awkward fall in the park, though.
Scared me.
I botched the landing on a 360ยบ and ended up doing the splits and a pirouette on my head.
Felt my left knee try to dislocate, my left shoulder definitely moved, and even my left pointer finger tried to dislocate.
Was weird.
I ended up OK though, thank goodness.
Would have been so bad and dumb to have gotten hurt just before our big road trip through deep Patagonia and boat trip to Antarctica that starts on Monday.
Regardless, I made myself get back on the horse.
I went right back into the park and threw another 360ยบ and landed it.
Upon landing, I realized that it really wasn’t the best jump (flat landing) and I needed to avoid it moving forward.
It looks like today we get one more full spring day before temps get more winter-like again on Sunday.
We were invited to a fancy asado down by one of the lakes here with our buddies from Jibbin’ and the scene was lit.
People here have a different vibe.
It’s very uncool to not be kind making kindness flow like the salmon on Capistrano.
What an amazing winter down here.
There’s more snow up high on the mountain than I’ve ever seen in my 13 seasons here.
The mountain is open daily until October 15.
Vamos, Argentina!
