Report from Cerro Catedral on August 3 & 4, 2024
This was our first full weekend skiing Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Argentina this season.
The weather has been all over the place so I slept in on Saturday and waited to see what would open in the blustery storm.
The upper mountain chairlifts were closed due to wind all day and many of the lower mountain lifts were as well.
Then, I saw that the Sextuple chair opened about noon and I ran up to the hill.
I battled my way up the mountain and dove into the lovely Lenga forests.
The snow was dense, wet, and responsive.
I popped and slarved, hooted and smiled.
The snow was thin down low and escaping the forest took some time but the whole experience was well worth it.
I glided home happy.
On Sunday, I had Greggy back in action and he was tired from his travels.
We arrived early and got first chair on Nubes.
The snow was pretty weird after all the wind the day before but still damn fun.
It was a bit hooky with wind-blown spots and ice glaze spots.
It was very hard to predict and you couldn’t quite open it up but it was smooth.
Today (Monday) was another powder day but super socked in during the am hours.
We finally gave up about noon and just as we did, the sun came out and gloriously kissed the mountain for an hour and we missed it…
The Patagonia weather is so hard to hit right but when you do get it right, it’s spectacular…
Thanks, Argentina!
