There is only one word to describe Potem Falls swimming hole accurately: “bliss.” If you enjoy swimming, rope swings, waterfalls, and exclusivity; this is the place you will be drawn to. The secluded swimming hole was worth the journey that it took to get there. After leaving the highway, a nine-mile-long dirt road and long zigzag pathway finally took us into what I would consider one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been to.
The seventy-foot waterfall filled the wide pool below. I’ve seen people jump from the top of the waterfall, but wouldn’t recommend it as the pool is not very deep. There was also a rope swing attached to one of the surrounding trees in which you could drop into the fluidic sanctuary. Towering granite walls enclosed the area, making it even more isolated. There was an area behind the waterfall where the rock indents that provides a nice little overhang to enjoy the waterfall from the other side. Large, flat rocks also gave the option for diving or laying down and relaxing.
Although the pictures provide a good representation of what was there, the pictures do not do this gorgeous swimming hole paradise justice. This is truly a magnificent place in which personally experiencing it will really open your eyes to that natural beauty of the Shasta/Trinity area.
