Report from February 13, 2024
On our 11th day in a row, Big White in British Columbia was the best place to be for soft turns and fresh lines. Despite not receiving more than trace amounts of snow in 48 hours, Big White graced us (and our tired knees) with a powder day to cap off the trip.
The powder was accompanied by intermittent flurries and moments of sunshine. The top of the GLE featured wind ridges and packed powder that swirled around frosty trees.
After the top section, the GLE provides your choice of powder lines through the forest. Some of the turns were feet deepโ it was hard to believe Big White experienced such an extreme rain/melt period so recently.
Parking at the GLE was a trapโ we never left. The chairโs access to alpine bowls and technical trees is hard to beat. The middle and lower sections of the GLE have canyons, creeks, drops, and sufficient downed logs to keep one entertained for a lifetime.
We do not normally notice grooming, but we wanted to call out the incredible snowcat work at Big White. Rather than the choppy groomers that have been a staple of this trip, Big Whiteโs groomers were smooth and positively creamy. The segments between tree lines were a pleasure. From guys who try never to be on piste, this is our highest praise.
