Breckenridge Distillery established National Après Day on March 31. Breckenridge Distillery claims to be the ‘World’s Highest Distillery’ at 9,600ft. The distillery was founded in 2008 and is known for its blended bourbon whiskey, a high-rye mash American-style whiskey. Their bourbon is one of the most highly awarded crafted bourbons: winning ‘Best American Blended’ each year from 2016-2019 at the World Whiskies Awards.
The term ‘après-ski’ derives from the French word for ‘after’ — après — and refers to the relaxed or celebratory drinks after skiing. The phrase après-ski moved from the European Alps to other ski resorts worldwide, from North America to Japan and Australia.
The Breckenridge Distillery celebrates this global tradition with its new #AprèsAnywhere campaign on National Après Day and invites everyone to enjoy a drink of their choice to honor this day. The campaign emphasizes that you don’t need to be skiing (or boarding) to enjoy an après.
The world’s highest distillery is at Corvatsch 3300 in Switzerland, opposite St. Moritz. Corvatsch has a distillery at the top of their cable car at 3,300m, equating to 10,827ft, more than 1,000ft higher than Breckenridge Distillery.
Irrespective of who holds the title of the highest distillery, we think the National Après Day is a fantastic initiative that everyone can get behind.
