Report from Tuesday, 25th of August
We were lucky to catchย Cardrona on a bluebird mini pow day. They reported 7 cm overnight, but it felt much deeper in many places. I was told thatย they had a long stretch of cold weather prior to the storm, so the snow underneath stayed good.
The best snow of the day was definitely off of Whitestar chair, which is where I spent most of the day. Valley View and Captain’s had some decent snow as well.ย My favorite runs were inย the Arcadia chutes.
The NZ Winter Games were going on all week at Cardrona and it was fun to watch qualifiers for slope style and big air skiers. I’m by no means a park skier, but the parks they have here are impressive. Chair rides on the Whitestar Express were quite entertaining as it passed directly over the slope style course.
The huge beginner’s area and phenomenal park setup makes Cardrona a great place for beginners, families, and park rats. If you’re into steeps and gnarly off piste skiing, you might want to look elsewhere.
